Sonic Encore

This entry to me is deeply confusing. What is there is nice, but it all feels quite directionless.

What is it trying to be?

Is it the Sonic Mania encore mode ported to Sonic 1? Well, no! The main draw of Encore was the character swaps, and these are nowhere to be found. Green Hill Act 2 is changed completely and there’s an unfinished Bridge Zone! Encore never did that!

Is it your usual layout+palette+music hack? Well, no! The only full level changed so far is Green Hill Act 2.

Just pick one, honestly. (And I’d advice you to lean into a more original experience, too.)

Other assorted notes:

• The Sonic sprites from Hortinus are nice. I hope you received permission from them to use these. That said, there are sometimes weird sprites from somewhere else that really stand out. Why is the “falling from spring bounce” animation so huge?
• The signpost’s shading is a miss. Might be worth redoing. It’s got heavy shading in places where it shouldn’t be, like teeth.
