What’s this?

Back in 2017, I have created this Sonic 1 hack as a challenge to see what I could accomplish in 16 days of time. I also posted a dev log of it on SSRG, day-by-day. I think this hack really didn’t age well in a variety of ways in hindsight, but it’s worth preserving the history of it on this website.

As I was looking through the original thread to make this post, I also realized one thing.

Technically speaking, I have failed the 16 day challenge.

No one has noticed for years, but I have counted Day 6 twice, meaning that I tacked on an extra day to the deadline. As it turns out, 2017 me was absolutely terrible at math all along!

Assuming that I started development on August 2nd at around 10:00, the development of the hack took me around 16 days and 21 hours, due to the fact that I thought I had one more day than I actually had.

Does it matter in the end, more than 7 years later? Does this hack deserve to be called “16 Day Challenge” now? I suppose, you decide.

The rest of the text will be presented with minimal formatting changes from how it was in 2017 (as much as it’s possible within the Markdown framework of this website), so beware of the jarring writing style shift and really odd gags.
