Let’s start with a bit of a backstory. Remember my hack, Sonic 2 ReMastered? Well, there’s one little detail many people didn’t know: the 80% of the hack was done just two weeks before the contest itself. And recently I had an idea…

What if I could pull off a similar thing, but with Sonic 1?
Today I present to you,

THE ALMIGHTY 16 DAY CHALLENGE!

​ Well It’s kind of obvious really. I am going to attempt to do a decent hack in just 16 days. Every day, starting from tomorrow (2nd of August), I will publish an update on the hack here, and hopefully on the morning of 19th of August, I will have a nice playable build.

Or, you know, maybe I will just shit myself and do a terrible job. That can also happen.

Day 1

Oh look, an updade!

Hooray!!!

Well… there’s nothing much right now. I just quickly made some art for Breezing Shores Zone (name suggested by Misinko). I still need to add clouds to the background, and I will add flowers after the importing process because I’m a very odd person.

Day 2

That one is a bit bland. After learning how to use SonLVL, I imported most of the stuff I had made yesterday. Yay.

I need to work harder. Hopefully the next update won’t be as dissapointing.

Day 3

Self explanatory. Made the brand new title card, brand new HUD, fixed monitors, finished the level background, made the first section of the layout. I also started to work on semi-new badniks, altho that is not shown here.

Remember I said I didn’t have time to write the text? I wanted to (finally!) eat.

Day 4

By the way… Binbowie will do the music for this project, so you will probably soon hear his amazing work in the hack! woohoo

I finished the layout and added a little neat thing at the end. Have some screenshots

I only need to make a small bit of art and fix platforms, and act1 will be done.

Oh, and I need to fix this lol

Day 6 (Again!)

I finished the act completely, except for some art. I still need to add some for the last section and add some to the BG to stop it from feeling empty.

Uhm… I don’t really know what to show really? Here’s a new “Sonic Has Passed” font on top of some placeholder art… yeah. There’s really nothing interesting to show right now, I just polished a lot of stuff out.

The next day will probably be dedicated to even more polishing… and then I will start act 2, and updates will be interesting again!

…I promise…

It’s day 7. I promised to give update posts every day… but today I made something I simply do not want to spoil. Sorry!

Day 9. A bit early, as you can tell. Basically, I made the background and then tried to make a badnik, AND IT DIDN’T FREAKING WORK. I TRIED SO MANY TIMES, OVER AND OVER, AND IT REFUSED TO WORK PROPERLY, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. Enough hacking for today.

The only thing left now for me is the last section of act2 and the credits screen.

Oh look, I forgot to do an update post. Whoops. Anyway, It’s day 12. I worked on my hack all day, even though it is my birthday. I have no life.

Day 13

Day 13. I can show you a glimpse of a new section of act 2. I also changed the color of the elevator section and I’ll show you a great organ with a new palette

By the way, while I’m doing the majority of the work, there are 4 people besides me who participated. Binbowie did the invincibility theme, Egor ported the music for levels and the boss, and FireRat will do the boss itself. Also, Binbowie and Vada did the 1-up jingle.

Day 14

Day 14. No screenshots this time. The main portion of this hack is now done, the only thing that needs to be added is the boss as well as the splash screen and a couple of fixes.

Day Hell/16. Seriously. That last night wasn’t fun.

It is 7 AM, but technically, I am still a few hours away from the deadline, so I present to you
